It is therefore important that facility managers are aware of the outcomes expected by their clients (and how their communication is influencing those expectations) so that they can do everything in their power to provide a service that they’ll consider to be positive

Efficiency in repairing broken equipment is imperative for good facility/maintenance management as clients are increasingly demanding regarding failure repair times. They simply cannot afford to have their operation speed compromised because of broken equipment, which piles the pressure on you as a manager!

Investing in a maintenance management system that centralises information, monitors daily work, makes communication faster and helps you keep track of repair times with SLAs, for instance, is something that all FM companies should be doing right now if they want to keep up with the competition.

3. Controlling costs 

It’s common for facility managers to be pressured into doing more with less in order to save the company money and deal with budget constraints. Although finding resourceful ways to reduce costs while maintaining efficiency is not a straightforward task, there are many ways you can do so. These include improving inventory management and negotiating prices with suppliers, performing energy audits to identify possible energy wastes that you can eliminate in the facilities you manage or investing in technology that will help you save money in the long run.

4. Implementing the right technology

 Investing in the right technology is essential for overcoming most challenges in facility management.

Managers can make the most of technologies to reduce costs to create and handle growth, to give their whole team extra responsibilities and, ultimately, to bring their improve the overall quality of their service. 

Choosing the right software for your operations is not an easy task, but it’s something that you as a facility manager have to do as soon as possible before the lack of one starts hurting your business.

5. Managing time

How does your schedule look? At any given time, a manager needs to juggle attending meetings, answering calls, writing emails, budgeting, coordinating one or multiple teams, performing audits, negotiating with suppliers. With all of this, as well as lots of unplanned occurrences happening every day, it’s safe to say that facility managers don’t have it easy when it comes to time management. This is another issue that technology can help you with. A CMMS can be extremely helpful for managing and prioritising tasks, as well as for managing multiple clients, buildings and/or locations easily.
